Hello
Today I installed and configured the LHC and it is very good! Congratulations!!
But, I'm not able to configure SMTP sending using gmail.com.
I used some references below and I did not succeed:

But with the following settings:
Host: tls: //smtp.gmail.com
Port: 465
Username: ***.com
Password: XXXXXX
I use an account that is already enabled SMTP in gmail and is using it by other tools.
From the server, I can resolve the email domain and telnet on port 465 with no problems.
The error that appears is:

Welcome in the Live helper chat forum and thanks for your first post!
Helping you with SMTP can be easy but is very hard with the use of gmail.
In gmail you can have the two step verification active and if this is active you need generate a specific password for allow LHC to send email.
I tried to help an user with SMTP and gmail in the past but I was unable to help to fix because always was showed error.
At the moment I can't do much.
I will test SMTP with a gmail account and let you know.
Ok I tested and was unable to make this work also if I have NO two step authentication active.
So as you are not the first user who have gmail SMTP Issue I will try to report this as issue.

Maybe this can be a GMAIL issue not live helper chat,

You don't have for the moment an email different from the gmail?
I don't know how the fix will take and if actions will be taken for solve the issue.
All is understand if is possible do something on LHC (Live helper chat side).
In my Live helper chat installation I AM using a personal SMTP like ***.ext and all is working fine.

Hi PeopleInside!
I have another email.
As information, I use gmail.com to send e-mails per terminal using SSMTP and everything will be fine. Also, I tested the SSMTP through the terminal with my own e-mail server, (acolatto.com.br) and I was successful.
But when I configure my domain (acolatto.com.br) in the LHC will not show the error below:
Below is the log of my email server when invoked by LHC:

The LHC server itself is finishing the session, but I can not get more information so far.
The setting I am using is:
HOST: tls: //smtp.acolatto.com.br
PORT: 465
Username and password are correct.
The LHC is not logging the errors of this transaction in the apache log. This is normal?
Any idea?

Hi acolatto,
maybe the not gmail address works fine so you don't see any error.
There is actually two issue in LHC.
The first seems to be with gmail who are not working and the second is about a new bug in testing email so if you press the test email button, when all work is not showed confirmation message but you see a different green message "settings updated" but if you check in your inbox you should find the testing email (check also in the SPAM folder).
For gmail we have to wait a reply from the chat owner also for the fix of the issue on testing confirmation message.

There are no issue on SMTP for other email account as I AM using it.
If your email are not delivered than you have email configuration issue on your server.
Check the SPAM folder.
Are you receiving now errors in SMTP when you test your email address?
I understand you don't see any error so all should work. If not you have mail server DNS and other issue but is in your side not LHC.
You can try to send an email from your email address at the email showed in this page:
https://www.mail-tester.com/
Keep the page open and than press the button to test your score. What score do you have?

With all due respect .... I know the settings of an email server and there is no problem with the email server.
I have several tools using this and everything is ok.
It does not have to be SPAM, because if you observe the log that I am passing, the LHC server is CONNECTING and in the same second, DISCONNECTING the session, nor giving possibility to enter with SPAM.
But in respect of your help follow the prompted:

thank you for your kind message.
As I don't know you and also your server settings also your LHC settings I can do only supposition and give you suggestion or test to do,
so the test is telling me your email is correctly configured.
If you are saving in LHC SMTP settings without error is strange your email is not delivered.
Are you using the last version of LHC? (2.51)
I hope you will be able to solve the issue soon or
you may need maybe chatting with me for see if I can give more support for solve your issue.

Please check also in the email template you have set the from email address as same of the SMTP email address;
if is different send can fail.

Hi,
seems you are not subscribed to GitHub issue so you will not receive updates.
Today I found a test email sent from a gmail account in LHC so maybe is possibile to set a gmail account in LHC SMTP settings but the issue on testing email made all more difficult to test and understand if works. Also (as I updated today the GitHub topic) the error of authentication in gmail is always showed in LHC so maybe there are something to fix.

I install other server with LHC and this problem continue.
I installed another server with LHC and the problem continues.
I am using the version of LHC 2.51.
I tried email from OFFICE365, but I did not get success either.

I AM using version 2.51
there is a potential bug in the test function email so if you ask for test you can have issue and believe your email are not delivered.
I was able to made work gmail with a very hard work, also was able to see SMTP works for my email domain.
Maybe I need try to assist you in chat and see your LHC installation.

Issue is you are trying to configure a personal domain email who is using a starttls certificate not recognized. As is not trust TLS/SSL you cannot configure LHC for use this email address as SMTP address.
In that case will need a complex SSL installation on your domain and complex configuration for made your personal domain email works with a valid certificate.
But the primary issue is in your hosting where you have LHC port 465 is closed so you will be not able to send email.
Please contact your hosting provider.

First of all, I want to thank you for your assistance this morning in the remote access you have made.
However, I have to disagree with your final analysis, which says that door 465 is closed. It is not blocked, neither 465 nor 587.
To prove, below follows TELNET output to the email servers, aonda can make sure that communication occurs normally and without locks.

can you remind me here your domain or you want / need to keep private info about that?
From an external test I DID as you as been able to see on my domain port 465 is flagged as OPEN,
in your domain the external test told port 465 was closed.
This is the only reason can explain for me, at this moment, while in your case gmail seems to be not working because I tested on my server and I was able to receive one test email.
Now for help you I have to change again all my Live helper chat configuration and test with a gmail account... and I will not do this right now.
Is not easy help you because seems to be a server issue for me not LHC,
for now.
Also when you tried to configure SMTP on your personal domain the issue is is using STARTTLS and not recognized SSL/TLS,
you also was unable to access to your Office365 email via Thunderbird.
So is difficult think this issue is in Live helper chat but I can understand you want fix, solve the issue.
In that case you need find me again online in live chat.
For now please share here (publicly) or in a private ticket your domain so I can try to do more test.

Hello,
I decided now to late to register an email on YAHOO MAIL and to make tests.
On the same server and with the settings below, I have succeeded in sending messages:
HOST: tls://smtp.mail.yahoo.com
PORT: 465
Only detail is that the emails take almost 5 minutes to reach the destination, but I believe it is a YAHOO MAIL delay.
In the other servers OFFICE365, GMAIL and PRIVATE MAIL could NOT be used.
I'll use YAHOO MAIL for now.

as I have not your domain I cannot do more test but I AM happy to hear you was able to solve with a yahoo account.
As replied on the forum I had updated the GitHub issue and the chat owner will look into this issue when is possible.
In the other servers OFFICE365, GMAIL and PRIVATE MAIL could NOT be used.
I'll use YAHOO MAIL for now.
OFFICE365 was not working also in Thunderbird, PRIVATE MAIL is working with a STARTTLS certificate who is untrusted so not recognized ... and as you see Thunderbird show a warning and ask if put this certificate in the whitelist. On the website if the certificate is not recognized you cannot continue so this is why your PRIVATE EMAIL can't send email via SMTP on Live helper chat.
GMAIL still be a mystery why is not working... because in one test I have done was able to see an email sent from gmail in LHC, not in your case.
Maybe POP and IMAP should be activated... and was disabled in your gmail account but never turned on because I do not want change your gmail settings.
I AM sorry to not be fully able to help you on that case but I AM happy to read you have found a solution.
I hope all issue will be resolved in LHC as soon as possibile.
Chat owner is very busy so the fix or the check can take some time.
