Will my support crew be able to use any Xmpp client (Android client in particular) or google talk to respond to client requests on the go?

Yes,
They will receive notification about new chat request. But chat they will have using mobile browser. In these xmpp clients comes notification about new user request with URL to accept chat request directly without requirement to login.

Is there any android application my workers can use to reply to clients, without browser? This would be a life saver for us.

No,
There is only desktop application and XMPP notifications. Basically employers has a running XMPP client. and then they get chat request in phone they just click a link in their mobile and chat through mobile browser.
