smtp settings

My outgoing mail server settings on the domain hosting livehelperchat requires TLS encryption, however in the SMTP Settings page, it does not have this option, and i keep getting the message "SMTP Error: Could not connect to SMTP host." or "SMTP Error: Could not authenticate.".

I have tried changing the password, host and ports, but not much luck.
Is there any way to enable TLS encryption for SMTP settings?

Re: smtp settings

I've tried these settings, even with a google gmail account, but it doesn't work.

Login: ***.com

Password: ***** (app password as per instructions)

Host*: tls://smtp.gmail.com

Port*: 465

I get the following error message:SMTP Error: Could not connect to SMTP host.

I then tried again with my email address (Exchange server):
Login: ***.com.au

Password: *****

Host*: tls://smtpauth.openconnect.com.au

Port*: 587 and also 25
but still doesn't work. I get the following error message:SMTP Error: Could not connect to SMTP host.

Re: smtp settings

I'm also getting the same behavior. I have tried both Gmail and Microsoft exchange accounts. Any other ideas Remdex?

Re: smtp settings

Is there a log file that I could see closer where the connection is failing? I have direct access to our Cpanel hosting server and do not see any blocks on SMTP connections from localhost.

Re: smtp settings

Remex:  I have discovered that using your recommended settings work. However, clicking the "test" button will ONLY work if the "SMTP Enabled" checkbox is cleared. If that checkbox is cleared (disabled), it will send mail immediately. As soon as I check it and click "Test", I get the error "SMTP Error: Could not connect to SMTP host."

Re: smtp settings

Because if not checked it sends mail directly, if checked it does not.

Re: smtp settings

So, isn't that a bug? Should I submit this on github? Thanks.

Re: smtp settings

Also, just fyi -- when I submit a post to this forum, it returns with an error "Invalid captcha code, please enable Javascript!"  (there is no captcha to put in). Then, I just click submit again and it actually submits.

I have seen similar behavior in the offline contact form for Live Help Chat.

Re: smtp settings

If you write slowly javascript captcha expires.
That's why you do not have to read images and so on like in other live support software.

As for SMTP really not a bug. I repeat again
1. If unchecked it sends mail directly from server
2. If checked tries to send mail using SMTP

Re: smtp settings

Try to setting Allow less secure apps: ON

I already do that, and it's work. I hope it can work on you too.
