Disable Extra Modules?

Is it possible to disable/hide the "Extra Modules" on the admin panel in an instance when using Automated Hosting?

We would like to simplify the menu (and support calls) by removing some of the modules for all instances (maybe re-enable at a later time).

Would it be OK to just remove menu items by updating the view template or is there a better approach?

I ques overriding some templates is the best option. Also you can override module and let say in module.php file just put exit;
