I have recently upgraded to latest version 2.46. I was on very old 1.6 or some version earlier from which I could not directly upgrade (which is available from 2.2x onwards). This is the website I am talking about: indiansnakes.org
After the upgrade, the widget always shows "Live help is offline" even though my operators are online. But, when I log in through Admin access, immediately the widget toggles to "Live help is online". So, quite obviously, I am missing some permission to the operator.
I tried to figure it out myself by applying some permissions which I thought would work, but with no success. What should I be doing here?

Hi Raj,
please check in your operators profile if they are assigned correctly to a department.
For do that edit profile and see the tab "Assigned Department" after that check your widget have that department in the drop don in user side.

Hi Marco,
Thanks for the reply. I found out that Departments was not assigned to the user nor the widget included department. I did both, still my operators do not seem online for visitors of the site. Any other thing which I am missing here?

Oops sorry! That was the issue, I had assigned department for one user and was checking with other operator. Sorry for confusion here, my mistake.
It would be great if this mandatory department assignment is documented somewhere, would be easy for first-timers, considering the fact that it was tough for me who has been using this since years now!
