Page refresh acts as completely new client

When a page is refresed it acts like it is a completely new visitor so the chat is gone & a new entry is  added to the visitor list

How can I resolve this?

The test site only has http, the backend does run on https (on a different domain which i have an ssl cert for).

Just read article. Most likely while configuring you just miss-configured it.
